Neurotoxins
Have you heard of the name Botox? Botox is actually a brand name of a product within a specific Neurotoxin class -- Botulinum Neurotoxin Type A. Botulinum toxin is a protein made by the bacteria “Clostridium botulinum” and it reduces muscle activity, which is how it helps to reduce wrinkle formation (as wrinkles are formed by muscle movement). Although the word “toxin” sounds scary, the amount used for cosmetic purposes is very little and the effect wears off with time.
At Mi by Lee, Botox and Xeomin are used. Botox is the oldest and most popular product of its class. Xeomin is the “purest” form of neurotoxin and the preferred product at Mi by Lee.
What should I expect the day of?
Expect to spend about 30-45 minutes for the session. The actual injection takes 5-10 minutes, but it takes time to review everything and make sure you feel comfortable with the procedure. You may have mild redness or slight swelling afterwards, but this should improve within a day.
Any special instructions afterwards?
You shouldn’t lay down for at least 4 hours after the procedure. Also, we recommend avoiding heavy physical activity or exposure to heat (such as sauna, hot yoga) for 24 hours.
We recommend every client to schedule a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks. Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin takes 2-3 days to start having effect and full effect takes up to 10-14 days. If you need more treatment, we can always inject a bit more during the follow-up appointment.
How long does it last?
On average, Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin lasts about 3-4 months.
However, this is a general timeline, and can vary depending on each person.
How much does it cost?
The cost of injection depends on how many units you need.
Botox – $14 per unit
Xeomin – $12 per unit
Following is a list of a general range of units that are needed for the face:
Glabellar lines (“11”s) 10 to 30 units
Forehead lines 6 to 20 units
Crow’s feet 12 to 24 units
Jaw (Masseter muscle) 30 to 70 units
** There is a minimum charge of $150 per session regardless of number of units injected
** We recommend a follow-up visit after 2 weeks for a touch-up (no minimal cost for follow-up)
